Our blog is all about Natural ways to better your health, self, and of course your skin. So if this is you're first time checking out the blog, welcome! And if you've been checking us out here and there, thank you! We hope you're enjoying it........Now onto Calendula.

Calendula Officinalis is the Latin name for the type of Calendula we will be referencing today. Calendula comes from the Marigold family, it is the most common species within the genus of Marigolds. Understand that every type of species has different compounds and therefore provide different benefits. So make sure that when purchasing Calendula for the following benefits you're getting Calendula Officinalis.

What are the skin benefits of Calendula?

  • Protective

  • Anti-Aging

  • Moisturizing

  • Anti-Inflammatory

Protective- Calendula has natural antioxidants. Antioxidants benefits the body by neutralizing and removing free radicals from the bloodstream.

Anti-Aging- Calendula is full of Carotenoids, hence the color, which is key to providing your skin with a healthy and youthful glow.

Moisturizing- Calendula is great for dry and sensitive skin. So gentle it can be used underneath the eyes to prevent fine lines and on babies to soothe dry patches.

How can I use it in my daily routine?

  • Tea

  • Face wash

  • Salves & Creams

  • Oil Infusions

Tea: Drinking Calendula tea is an easy way to get its benefits. Growing and making your own at home, Finding a great Organic version, or purchasing fresh or dried herbs from your local herb shop are some easy way to enjoy Calendula Tea.

Face wash: Yes, you can wash your face with Calendula! It's so simple and great if you're prone to breakouts and Acne. Simply make a tea, let it cool, and rinse your face nightly with it. Also try soaking a wash cloth in the liquid and placing it on your face while it's still warm, repeat as needed.

Salves & Creams: We're big fans of D.I.Y versions because you can be adventurous with your creations. A simple base ratio of beeswax to butters & oils of  1:3 (wax to oil) will keep things quick and easy for you or you can look for brands with Calendula Officinalis.

Oil Infusions: one of our favorite things to make here at Shia, submerging Dried Calendula (must be dried so all water is removed from the flowers) into your oil of choice and leave it where it can get a bit of sun during the day for at least 6 weeks.  Realistically you leave it for as long as you'd like. The longer the better. You can then take this oil to make your own salves & creams, oil blends, or just use as is as a overall healing oil.

Incorporating Calendula into your skin care routine can truly be easy and definitely beneficial to your overall skin and health. We believe that taking care of your skin naturally doesn't have to be so time consuming and stressful.

We enjoy giving you quick and easy ways to do so and for the more complicated concoctions, well you can just leave that to us!
